Quick, easy, tasty and filling, this cheats chicken tikka pitta with a raita yoghurt dip is the perfect GD-friendly lunch.

The cheat in this recipe is that it uses store-bought cooked chicken tikka pieces and this simple raita takes just moments to whip up. Quorn chicken-style pieces can be used as a vegetarian alternative too. You can of course use leftover roast chicken instead of the store-bought cooked chicken pieces instead.

  • 1 whole wholemeal pitta
  • 100 grams cooked chicken tikka pieces
  • ¼ small iceberg lettuce shredded
  • 1 whole spring onion finely sliced in strips

for the raita

  • 4 tbsp natural yoghurt
  • ¼ medium cucumber grated
  • a few fresh mint leaves finely chopped
  • a pinch sea salt
  • ¼ tsp garam masala (optional)
  • a good pinch ground cumin (optional)
  • a good pinch dried dill (optional)


  • Toss lettuce and spring onion together. Heat the pitta bread in the microwave or toaster for 1 min or until puffed up. Remove the pitta and score with a knife to create an opening
  • Optional: Tip the tikka pieces into a bowl and give them a quick blast in the microwave to heat through or you can eat them cold
  • Stuff the pitta with the salad, chicken, and slice in half

for the raita

  • Coarsely grate the cucumber, then place in your hands to squeeze out the water and transfer to a bowl
  • Season the cucumber with the salt, and stir in the yoghurt, mint and spices if using
  • Seve the pitta with spoonfuls of the yoghurt raita dip
