Chocolate Trifle

It’s really easy to use a few GD UK recipes and create a lovely low carb layered dessert like this chocolate trifle which is perfect for Christmas, dinner parties or any special occasions where you don’t want to feel left out.

Choices for the chocolate layers:

No Added Sugar Chocolate or Butterscotch Angel Delight

GD UK Chocolate mousse

GD UK Chocolate Cheesecake

GD UK Thick Chocolate Shake (vegan & dairy free), this recipe would need to be made and then refrigerated overnight or at least 12 hours to solidify

Choices for the cake/biscuit layers:

GD UK Chocolate Brownies (original recipe, nut free recipe, dairy free recipe, or vegan recipe) all are gluten free

GD UK Chocolate Cheesecake base (gluten free)

GD UK Scottish Shortbread, add a tbsp of cocoa powder to this recipe for a chocolate flavour and look

GD UK Peanut butter cookies, add a tbsp of cocoa powder to this recipe for a chocolate flavour and look

Nairns gluten free chocolate biscuit breaks, crumbled

Choices for the cream layer and topping:

Whipped double cream

Whipping cream

Whipped coconut cream

Please note: Spray cream is not thick enough to hold the chocolate ganache and garnish

Chocolate sauce topping:

GD UK Ganache

Garnish choices:

Anchor Extra Thick Spray Cream (this is the only spray cream that does not contain added sugar)

Cocoa powder

Cacao nibs

Grated/shaved 70% dark chocolate

A square of dark chocolate

Sukrin Gold brown sweetener

Cinnamon

Chopped nuts

2 x MINI Oreo cookies

Unsweetened desiccated coconut

Orange zest

PLEASE NOTE: Avoid adding fruit, honey, syrups, white chocolate or any chocolates that contain high sugar ingredients such as nougat, caramel, toffee, honeycomb etc. as they will make the trifle too high in carbs
This chocolate trifle is the same as above but with added orange juice, orange zest and a segment of Terry’s dark chocolate orange

My glasses are quite big and so it would be best to keep this dessert smaller to start with to see how well you tolerate the trifle you put together. Remember that real cream and nuts are the key items in this dessert which help pair the carbs, therefore feel free to add plenty of those items!

  2. Start with a layer of mousse/cheesecake/NAS angel delight
  3. Crumble in a layer of GD UK brownie or chosen GD UK biscuit/cookie
  4. Add a layer of whipped double or coconut cream (please note, spray cream is not thick enough to use on this layer and will not support the layers on top)
  5. Add another layer of mousse/cheesecake/NAS angel delight
  6. Add another layer of of GD UK brownie or chosen GD UK biscuit/cookie
  7. Top with a layer of chocolate ganache
  8. Finish with some Anchor Extra Thick spray cream, or whipped cream and your chosen garnish
Recipe Notes

These desserts are best made fresh and stored in the fridge until use (do not add spray cream until serving otherwise it will lose it's shape and density).  It is best to make the best trifle up-to the ganache layer and then add the topping just before serving. You can freeze elements of the dish before assembling eg. the brownies and biscuits, but the pudding layers should be made fresh to use

Keep the serving sizes small, so opt for a small glass or ramekin to create this trifle.

How is this possibly GD friendly???
